Metropolis Illinois Man Indicted for Distribution of Crack Cocaine
APR 17 -- (BENTON, IL) - A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on April 7, 2009, DEMARIO TYRELL DANIELS, age 19, of Metropolis, Illinois, was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Benton, Illinois, in a three count indictment charging him in one count with Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and two counts of Distribution of Crack Cocaine. The violations are alleged to have taken place on February 18, 2009, November 12, 2008 and October 24, 2007 in Metropolis, Massac County, Illinois.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
If convicted, DANIELS faces a minimum potential sentence of 5 years and up to 40 years imprisonment, a 2 million dollar fine and up to 4 years of supervised release.
This case was investigated by the Illinois State Police, the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Michael C. Carr for prosecution.
