Arrested for Violating the Combat Methamphetamine
JAN 23 -- (Elmira, NY) JOHN P. GILBRIDE, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration ("DEA") and Christopher J. Moss, Sheriff of Chemung County announced the arrests of several defendants for violations of the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA) of 2005.
DEA Special Agent in Charge John Gilbride stated, “DEA's focus is to dismantle clandestine methamphetamine labs and trafficking organizations and to also monitor the products that are illegally used to produce methamphetamine. DEA is committed to keeping our communities safe from the dangers of methamphetamine production and abuse. Today’s arrests are a warning to those who violate the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act.”
This morning at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the Horseheads Police Department and the New York State Police executed nine (9) federal arrest warrants for violations of the CMEA.
Arrested this morning were: Thomas A. Matlack, DOB 01/10/79 of 917 Federal Rd, Erin, NY; Jody C. Wilson, DOB 04/30/75 of 306 Ridge Rd., Horseheads, NY; Amy E. Hardwick, DOB 08/16/79 of 306 W. 4th St., Elmira, NY; Chrisopher J. Combs, DOB 09/14/71 of 279 W. 14th St., Elmira Heights, NY; Charles J. Talada, DOB 09/22/82; Jesse W. Vanzile, DOB 01/10/84 of 709 Medina St., Elmira, NY; Richard M. Hompson, DOB 12/20/69 of 3809 Watkins Rd., Millort, NY; Keith D. Nichols DOB 03/16/82 of 6259 Swartwood Rd., Cayuto, NY; and Shawn P. Mattews DOB 03/07/71 of 625 Yale St., Elmira, NY. Arrested last month and charge with violations of the same Federal Statue were: Jason C. Bates, DOB 06/01/79 of 1920 Grand Central Ave., Horseheads, NY; Robert M. Bates Jr., DOB 06/05/77 of 1493 Breesport Rd., Erin, NY; William D. Weed, DOB 06/13/68 of 42 Marsh Rd., Erin, NY; and Anthony M. Washanko, DOB 05/28/77 of 11 Laurel Hill Rd, Erin, NY. Also arrested this morning and charged with Criminal Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Materials in the 2nd Degree was David J. Sweezey, DOB 10/02/69 of 358 Chambers Rd., Lot 8, Horseheads, NY.
These arrests were the result of the Sheriff’s Office Operation Rid Area of Methamphetamine (R.A.M.) initiative and the Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Horseheads Police Department, the New York State Police, the US Attorney’s Office – Western District of New York, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office.
Operation R.A.M. is a Chemung County Sheriff’s Office initiative which is funded by the New York Sate Division of Criminal Justice Services, Operation Impact Tools Program.
