Louisville Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Illegal Distribution
JUL 14 -- LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that GERMAINE WOODS, age 28, of Louisville, Kentucky, was sentenced to 2 years in federal prison on July 9 th, 2009, in United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky, for illegally distributing 300 Oxycontin 30 mg pills. U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn, also sentenced Woods to 3 years supervised release following incarceration. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.
Woods had previously pled guilty to selling approximately 300 Oxycontin 30mg pills on October 10, 2008, in the McDonalds parking lot on West Broadway in Louisville. Oxycontin is a highly addictive Schedule II pain killer that is only legally available by prescription.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
