Harry S. Sommers, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Atlanta Field Division, entered on duty with the Drug Enforcement Administration in June of 1985. SAC Sommers attended Basic Agent Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as part of Basic Agent Class 38, graduating in September of 1985. He was temporarily assigned to the DEA’s Washington Division Office until he was transferred to DEA’s Ft. Lauderdale District Office (FLDO) in December of 1985. SAC Sommers was then assigned to the FLDO Group 21 until he was transferred to DEA’s Caracas, Venezuela Country Office in December of 1991.

In November of 1994, SAC Sommers transferred to DEA’s Memphis Resident Office after completing his three year foreign assignment. In February of 1997, SAC Sommers then joined DEA’s Special Operations Division (SOD) after being promoted to GS-14 Staff Coordinator. While at SOD, SAC Sommers was assigned to the Southwest Border Initiative. In June of 2000, SAC Sommers transferred to DEA’s Nashville Resident Office and assumed the responsibility as the Resident Agent-in-Charge.

In October of 2003, SAC Sommers was promoted to the Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge of the Nashville District Office. In 2009, SAC Sommers was promoted as the Special Agent-in-Charge of the St. Louis Field Division, where he served for 2 ½ years, until being appointed to his current position as the SAC of the Atlanta Field Division in November 2011.

In June of 1982, SAC Sommers received a B.S. Degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with majors in Political Science and Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. From June of 1982 until June of 1985, SAC Sommers was a police officer with the Fairfax County, Virginia Police Department.
